Hey, it looks like the jerks at some online poker 777 crap place are blog-spamming like crazy. They not only call wp-comments-post.php directly, they do if for future posts. So, that means that you immediately get a comment with their spam when you post a new article. I used phpMyAdmin to remove all 25 or 30 of their stinkin’ posts and then set up some Apache mod_rewrite rules. No one can access wp-comments-post.php directly anymore. They must be refered from my site, which makes sence as the only way you should be able to post a comment is if you first see the story. Go figure. We’ll see if this keeps them out….heh heh…

I’ve added several plugins to the site. The latest, in an effort to thwart comment spam which I get almost immediately after making a post, is a human-verification plugin. Now, before making a comment, you have to type in a code presented in a graphic which is difficult for automated software to read. Unfortunately it’s also difficulf for sight-impared people to post comments but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it…for now, hopefuly I’ll have little or no comment spam. We’ll see.
Well, when I set up WordPress I was hoping that it would be unlimited blogs, unlimited users, when infact, it’s one blog, unlimites users. There is a project called Multiuser WordPress that I’m interested in but it seems that it may not be very far along. In stead, I may have to set up a seperate MySQL user/database and seperate WordPress install for each blog I need to run for users on my system. That will work but it won’t be the ease-of-use administration I was hoping for. There may be another solution out there but WP is such a cool blog solution that I would really like to continue using it.

I spent a few hours today fixing things on my second server (virtual0.mecworks.com). I couldn’t get postfix to work correctly with amavis virus filter and forward to my real mail server so I ended up switching to sendmail. I’ve used sendmail for years on my other servers but I wanted to give postfix a try. Maybe in another few years… I also fixed a problem with mbsendmail() function that was preventing changed passwords for WordPress being sent out in anything but base64 encoding (somewhat difficult to dealwith if you don’t have a base64 decoder handy). PHPAccelerator was also having a problem not knowing the user and group underwhich apache was running. So, after manualy adding thoes params into the php.ini file, we’re up and running with phpa again. It aparenlty was not working for quite some time. Oh well…
Earlier yesterday I went swimming. If I can remember…I did 100 slow free, 100 slow breast, 50 free, 200 kick, 200 pull, 50 breast, 100 free, 100 breast. Total of 900 meters. It was a good workout (for me anyway). Later I went to Salt Lake to see the latest Warren Miller film: Impact. Not as good as last years or the year’s before that but not bad by any means. I saw Witney Sayama - she got married three months ago and I don’t know her last name. Man! it’s been something like four years since I’d seen her. Before the movie, several of us met at Anne Metcalf’s place for dinner. Anne organized the whole thing - she does every year. I don’t know how she does it…or why she goes to the trouble but thanks Anne! Erik Brown had his camera phone but it was too dark to take a picture.
So, I finally set up a blog using WordPress. Nice stuff for sure. I’ve been meaning to do this for quite some time. I also recently returned from a trip to Europe. It was my first time there. Awesome. We went from Spain to Denmark then Sweden before heading to Germany. All in all a three week trip. We’ll see how it goes….
