HD-3000 Hi Definition Television Card

Well, I took the plunge. I recently purchased two HD-3000 Hi Definition Television PCI Cards from www.pchdtv.com. I will be setting up MythTV with the two tunners to make my own PVR. It has more features than TiVo and is not as restrictive as TiVo has become over the years. There are more features and add-ons for MythTV and the scheduling comes for free from various online tv scheduling guides on the net. It is also completely OpenSourced which is a definite plus as far as servicability, hackability and extendability go.

The company is a local company and so I like to support them but in addition to that, they first and foremost produce drivers for Linux, then Windows. It’s nice to support a company that thinks like I do … 8^)

They have a deal for Utah based Linux user groups. They give a discount for members – it was discussed in a SLLUG meeting on MythTV presented by Brandon Beattie

Brandon has also written a very good HOWTO document on setting up Home Theater PC (HTPC) on Linux. It contains a lot of information on how to set up PVR software, hardware for very flexable and extendable home entertainment and media setups using Linux.
