I just subscribed to make:, the new ultra-geek-coolness magazine from O’Reilly.
From the FAQ:
| Q: | What is MAKE? |
| A: | MAKE is a new hybrid magazine/book (“mook”) published quarterly by O’Reilly. MAKE brings the do-it-yourself mindset to all the technology in your life. MAKE is loaded with exciting projects that help you make the most of your technology at home and away from home. It follows in line with the Hacks books and Hardware Hacking Projects, but it takes a highly visual and personal approach. |
I saw issue 01 at a PLUG meeting that I attended last night and decided that it was my type of publication. Of course, I’ve been making stuff in my basement shops since I was 8 or so and always have been an avid fan of hardware hacks. Am I one of the only people to think that industrial rackmount looks good in the living room?
Last night we had an impromptu meeting of the local LUG leaders (SLLUG, PLUG, BYU UUG, UVLUG) and were able to work together on the presentation for the upcoming Novell Users International (NUI) conference on a 106″ screen in 720p HiDef on the wall. It was cool to see SuSE 9.2 boot up in 720p on a Linux Home Theater PC (HTPC) (I plan to write up an article about the screen real soon) – technology just plain rocks.
