Bad, bad server. No donut for you
Orkut’s performance is miserable these days. All of the icons and graphics rarely (if ever) show up when going to a new page or refreshing the current one. I get more server errors than I can shake a stick at. Messages show up in my inbox more that once.
I’m greeted daily by several of these friendly errors:

I doubt I’m the only one experiencing these issues when using Orkut. The problems have been going on for some time. I wonder if Orkut is so far on the back burner at Google that they’ve given up on making it a successful community. It had such great promise and with the know-how and geek-savvy brain-trust that is google, you might think they would continue building the community.
Sadly however, performance and a comparative lack of features makes it hardly worth logging into anymore. Friendster has continued to add features such as decent forums which are searchable (Google???), blog integration, etc. while Orkut seems stagnant and forgotten.
I wonder where Google thinks this little corner of cyber-space is going…maybe like a hole in a donut, it’s going nowhere.
Bad, bad server. No donut for you….
i cannot believe google isn’t able to run this community - i started using orkut around a year ago…. was already owned by google…. slow servers after 4 pm when the brazillians enter the net.. nothing changed. with a reputation of google i don’t understand. if i where the ceo i’d give my people some time to fix it and if it fails i’ll pull the plug…..!

Damn…lets start blaming the brazilians! I mean, what would you expect of a page created in ASP…

Well, I don’t think that mark was blaming the Brazilians. It’s a fact that most users of Orkut are from Brazil so when they get online, you certainly see that the Orkut system does not scale well. It’s that the Brazilians are helping find Orkut’s weaknesses - chalk one up for the Brazilians! :)

I know a friend of mine who lives in Brazil. And believe me, they ALL use Orkut. I don’t see what’s so good about it. I prefer MSN Spaces or Hi5.
Conclusion: You may blame the brazilians for some of the lack in performance. Stop hogging Orkut! lol

Hey! Don’t blame the Brazilians! I’m Brazilian myself and that’s the reason we all like orkut. It’s because everyone in brasil has it, so we can all communicate with our far-away friends and family in a fun way. It may be true that Brazilians are the reason why the server is running so slowly, but we love it!

I think Tony was kidding when he said you can blame Brazillians. It’s obviously Google’s problem. I agree that it’s a great place to keep in touch with and make new friends!

Bad, bad server. No donut for you.
Unfortunately, the orkut.com server has acted out in an unexpected way. Hopefully, it will return to its helpful self if you try again in a few minutes.
It’s likely that the server will behave this way on occasion during the coming months. We apologize for the inconvenience and for our server’s lack of consideration for others.
This is the message i receive all the time when i click my communties.. Can anyone comment on this.. why does this hapen

Considering they haven’t solved the problem since so long, they should change the last paragraph to:
It’s likely that the server will behave this way on occasion during the coming YEARS.
