I’ve always been interested in electronics and technology. Ham radio has been interesting to me and in hich school, our vocational electronics instructor was a licensed ham and in the lab we had a couple radios that we used to talk with the space shuttle. Until recently I have not thought about doing anything with amature radio but I was talking with David Brown (K7LNX) friend of mine about a month ago. He recently got his license and we talked about it for a while. David sent me information on the next free class taught by Steve Whitehead (NV7V). The fee for the license was $14.00.

Revenge of the Sith

Filed under: General — marc @ 8:35 pm

RotS was OK. We went to see it as a work party today at Novell. Much better than Star Wars Episodes I and II but too heavy on the special effects and CGI IMO. Bring back the muppets!!!! Jar Jar also appeared in Episode III as much as he ever should have in I and II. Some people like Jar Jar but I don’t and think he detracted from the movies (dare I say, I doubt that I’m in the minority on this one) .

I give Starwars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith 4 out of 5 stars  4 out of 5 stars

When I was in highschool I made a single-line parafoil with 4 cells. I was amazed at how it inflated into the shape of an efficient airfoil shape using the force of the wind entering the openings on the leading edge. I was also intrigued by the fact that the design had no spars, it was completely soft yet formed a large wing when in use and could be packed away in a small bag for storage or in a backpack. Although I was excited about the kite, it was sewn together with a small defect that made it turn clockwise in strong wind. I have always liked the kite and have always wanted to get a large one.

Novell Acquires Immunix

Filed under: Linux — marc @ 8:03 am

Wow! Novell acquired Immunix. That’s cool. I spent a lot of time playing with with Immunix and looking at their stackguard technology in the GCC compiler. It provides support for determining and protecting against buffer overruns produced by maliciaous code. They have some other technology to control what files and devices a process can have access to as well. Very cool stuff. Of course their technology has changed a lot since I played with it. I think it will be a good thing IMO.
