The Globe and Mail has an article about how net marketers are worried about how ineffective cookies are in marketing as a large percentage (40% or so) of surfers purge their cookies on a monthly basis.

Comment SPAMers

Filed under: General — marc @ 6:19 am

Each day I wake to find 10 to 15 comment spams in my moderation queue. You’d think that the spammers would have their bots check to see if their spam was actually getting posted to the site before they continuted spamming. It’s fruitless for them as I just delete their comments before they ever see the light of day. I’ve also been getting a lot of stats or refferer spammers lately. I have to controll them manually for now but I think I’ve found some Wordpress plugins for referer spam. We’ll see when I can get them set up.

Technology failed us today

Filed under: General — marc @ 11:19 am

Last night when I got home I rand in to my neighbor Jay. He is into a bunch of the same sports and interests that I am into which is cool but we’ve never done anything together yet. We talked about either flying kites or climbing in Rock Canyon. Jay and his wife were going camping at Rock Canyon camp ground and we decided that I’d head up to Rock canyon in the morning (after I had finished watching the Tour de France!!!) and that I’d give him a call on his cell when I got close. He was going to hike down from the camp ground and meet everyone at the climbing area.

Upgraded WP to 1.5.1.3

Filed under: Linux — marc @ 9:31 pm

As per the announcement on the WP blog:

We would like to announce that WordPress 1.5.1.3 is now released as we continue the availablity of a highly stable and extremely popular branch based on the 1.5 Strayhorn codebase. Development has moved on to some exciting new features for the next major release, but an important security issue was brought to our attention which required an update for our users. The problem is not yet public but you should update your blog as soon as possible to 1.5.1.3. If you are unable to do upgrade in the short-term you may protect yourself by deleting the xmlrpc.php file from your WordPress directory.

10 meter Ozone Frenzy05
10 meter Ozone Frenzy05

A great day. 87° F, 29% rel. humidity and sunny skies. I got up early, about 6:30 or so and went kiting at a near by park. I flew the 5m Ozone Frensy05 first but the wind was really light so I packed it away and pulled out the 10m. Perfect. I got a small jump once that took me about 5 feet forward and a foot or so in the air - pretty good for a < 10 mph wind.

Are the planets aligning in the wrong direction for me?

Filed under: General — marc @ 8:59 am

The installers are finishing up the heating and cooling system today. I had ordered a Trane high-efficiency air conditioning and heating system to be installed with a humidifier and electrostatic air filter. It turns out that the high efficiency air conditioner coil is too tall for either the humidifier or filter to be installed. While this will drop the cost of the installation, it sucks at the same time. Wow, not my day it would seem.

Completely frustrated

Filed under: General — marc @ 8:04 am

So, my master plan for my life included buying this condo, and when the time came, move out, get a house while renting the condo to get extra income. I found out this morning that the condo association board is concidering changing the by-laws to restrict rentals of the condos. This sucks. I have no need to move yet and may not for a few years but I didn’t want to sell this place either. I wanted to build equity, and eventualy get income by renting it. Again, this bites.
