Mountain Bike ride: 1h 29m 28s

Filed under: Exertion — marc @ 8:41 pm

Went to Vivian park today (again….). Ran into Anaee who knows Laura Black (a family friend). She was jogging with her baby stroller down the Provo Canyon trail. The canyon was cold tonight but the temperature was only partially to blame for me not wanting to ride as hard. I’m nearing compete exhaustion - my body isn’t recovering, I’m getting more and more sore and weak every day. I need to ride. Maybe I’ll try some flats - I’ve been climbing in the mountains for over a month and a half.

Looking up on Y Mountain today I saw the first hints of red in the oak leaves. I’m sad to see summer go and yet the fall is one of my favorite seasons. There’s a sadness to it yet there’s beauty in the colors and the way the wind blows the crisp, yellow, brown and red leaves accross the asphalt trail as I climb the path to Vivian. The trail becomes impassable when the snows fall and I switch to spending hours in the gym and doing laps in a 50m pool near by.

I had an appointment at 7:30pm to night so I rode hard to get as much in before I had to head back to get to it. Made it to Vivian once and then tried again and made it to the second dam which is about 2 miles from Vivian before I had to head home. I pushed hard again. I would have ridden more if I had the time. Only did 28 miles today - probably should have done at least 35.

Well, I ended up pushing pretty hard today. My right knee was screaming for relief as I pushed up the second climb to Vivian. When I reached the bottom the first time, I felt I needed more so I turned around and headed up again. When I got to the bottom the second time I felt I wanted to do it again but the light was fading fast and I didn’t put my NiteRider light on my bike when I left this evening.

Vivian. I’m having problems with my car (looks like the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) in my Jeep Cherokee is going out or is gone - at least that’s what the diagnostic codes tell me) so I’ll probably be commuting to work tomorrow then I’ll ride from there. I picked one up at Pep Boys tonight but did not have enough time to install it before I had to meet some friends for dinner. Good to hang out with people but I kept thinking that I wanted to be fixing my car…or riding.

Mountain Bike ride and camping

Filed under: Family, Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 8:21 pm

Last night my brother, his wife and I went camping up on the Nebo Loop. An amazing place but even better in fall. We would like to go back sometime and climb Mt. Nebo, the highest peak in the Wasatch Mountains.

The Nebo Loop is one of Utah’s Scenic By-ways.

I went on a mountain bike ride to Vivian park today and then north to Pleasant Grove before heading back. I stopped by a friends house to see if he wanted to ride with me but found out that he’s out of town till September. His brother in-law (Mike) and his friend (Clay) were there and we may go riding in the near future. Always good to have some riding companions.

For the road, I got a second wheel set for my mountain bike with a smaller Shimano 7-speed Hyperglide cassette than my mountain set. I run Specialized Bike Flack Jacket 1.25″ slicks at 100psi - rock hard. The set is very nice! I’m able to cruse at around 17-20mph on the flats. Although I do need to tension the spokes - I think they are not as tight as I like to ride.

I decided to ride to Vivian again but when I got there I decided to continue up South Fork of Provo Canyon to the gate at the end. South Fork is beautiful with a stream running the entire length traveling through a few pastures and small farms and cabins. I’d love to have a cabin someday… So, with today’s ride, I pretty much double my elevation gain and add a little over 6 miles to the usual Vivian ride.

I’ve been riding for hours every day for the last two and a half weeks. Tonight I rode around the west side of Geneva Steel, over to the South end of American Fork, up through North Orem to the mouth of Provo Canyon up to Vivian Park, then back home. This is too hard…its not working.

Prevent yourself from clicking on your own Adsense ads

Filed under: Linux, Tech — marc @ 8:38 am

OK, this is cool. So, you want to run Adsense ads on your own site and generate some revenue, maybe pay for your DSL connection or even better, pay your second mortgage. So, you set up Adsence and accidentally, you find yourself once in a while clicking on the ads on your pages as you view your own site. Whether an errant click of the mouse or actual interest in an ad, this can put your Adsense accout in jeopardy.
