I have a favorite wall clock I bought at Target a few years ago. It’s kind of eclectic with a stainless steel rim and a black leather ring inside that. The clock takes 1 AA battery but it seems to eat them like crazy. In the last year or so, I have had to replace the battery about every two or three monts. I’m tired of it – all I want is a clock that works and doesn’t need to have it’s battery replaced so often so I modded mine last night. A simple but very effective mod IMO…

I took the back cover off and bought two C battery clips from Raidio Shack. I gluded them in plce using Elmer’s ProBond® Glue which is a moisture curing, polyurethane glue. However, to hold the battery clips in place while the poly glue cured, I put a small dab of hot glue in the center of each clip and pressed them in place.
I connected the clips in parallel so that the voltage will be the same (1.5v) but I’ll be able to get a tremendous 14200+ mAh power capability vs. the original 1120 mAh! Whooo hooo! I then soldered the leads to the battery contact leads in the old AA battery holder. I expect that I may not have to change the batteries again for a while – at least that’s the goal! :)
