Garden Park Ward Photos

A friend of mine, Melody and I went to Garden Park Ward last Tuesday. It’s a fascinating place in the neighborhood where I grew up. I used to float boats in the duck pond and walked through there on my way to and from my high school (East High).

We took a few pictures while we were there. The camera we used was a small compact Olympus Stylus 810 which is a great camera however, we really needed a tripod. Looks like we’ll have to go back!

Garden Park is a popular place for wedding receptions however, due to it’s popularity, only members of the ward or possibly stake can used the facilities for receptions now.

Hi there,
My name is Rory Thompson, and I am not a member of the ward. However My fiance is from Canada and my family lives in Southern Utah so the central area to meet is in Salt Lake. We are getting married in the Salt Lake Temple. We are looking for a church to have our reception at. This one is ideal! If at all possible could we reserve this Church on August 25th??? I understand that members of the ward would of course come first. Or if you know of any other Churches that have a charming little setting like this would you let me know?

Hey Rory, the ward is an awesome place to take photos and have receptions. Unfortunately, as I understand it, only members of the ward can schedule receptions there. In addition to that, it is currently under renovation and is closed to all activities including church meetings. I don’t know when it is scheduled for being re-opened. I don’t know of any places which are close to this that are near by… Good luck!

Does anyone know if this park as re-opened yet? I am looking to take some bridal photos there Saturday (the 16th) in the morning. Thanks!

Not sure if it’s open yet. My friend said that they would be closed for the better part of a year for the renovation. I will be up there this weekend on Sunday and can check but it looks like you’ll be there before me.

Hm… Red Butte Gardens is nice but they charge for entrance. There’s another ward with a gully (with the same Red Butte stream that flows through Garden Park Ward) up a few blocks to the east. When I was in jr. high and high school, we called it Hobbit Land. I think it’s on almost directly east of Garden Park Ward at about 15th east or somewhere around there. I don’t know how nice it is to photograph there though. Fort Douglass has some really cool historic sandstone buildings that make nice backdrops. It’s South of the University of Utah hospital and East of the University of Utah’s lower campus. Just some ideas. Hope you find a good place…

It won’t be open until Spring 2008. Not sure of an exact date, but sometime in the Spring. I also heard that they are posting a website to make reservations to take portraits there. Maybe that way it won’t be so busy.

I am the current bishop of the Garden Park ward. Receptions are only permitted for members of the Bonneville Stake.The bride or groom needs to be a member of the stake, no exceptions. Photograghy is permitted by appointment only. No photgraphy on Sundays. Thanks,

Hi… what are the coordinates of the Garden Park Ward? I just moved here and want to check it out! Is it on 15th east? What south is it?

Hey Stephanie, You can get to it by going to Harvard or Yale Ave. (either one will get you there) on 11th east and turn right. It’s a bout half a block east of 11th.

My daughter would like to have a bridal photo shoot at the Garden Park ward site on July 9th, 2011 in the P.M. Would it be possible to schedule use that afternoon/evening? We are not members of the Garden Park ward/stake.
