I went with a friend, Charlotte to see a Peter Breinholt concert last night at Sundance Ski & Summer Resort. It was held outside, it rained the whole time but we had plenty of blankets and some stadium chairs. We found a spot under the only pine tree in the grassy general seating area which helped shield us from most of the rain. The concert was really good. I haven’t seen them play live since I was in school. I was surprised to see the bass player – Mike Ensign. He and I are good friends but I haven’t seen him for probably 5 or more years. I knew that he was one of the original members of the Big Parade and had collaborated with Peter on their first album and has also played with him quite often since. I didn’t even think he was going to be there last night though. The thought hadn’t even occurred to me however, maybe he always plays with him.
After the concert we went back stage to talk to Mike. It was great to see him. When we climbed up between a moving truck parked back stage to load all the band’s equipment and on to the platform, we went through a large sliding door that was cracked open a couple feet across the loading dock. To my surprise, once again, a good friend of ours, Jim Schnaples was also there with a girl he is dating. The five of us talked and caught up as much as we could in the brief 10 minutes or so. It was really cold and having been outside for the better part of two hours in the rain we needed to get back into a warm car and head back.
Wow! It was amazing to talk to them again. It’s been way too long. I got their contact info and we’re going to try to get together in the next little while and really catch up.
Peter Breinholt has a great folk sound and is really popular in Utah. If you ware wondering what he sounds like you can check out their site and their on-line store here where they have samples of their music.
