I’m going to be riding the Multiple Sclerosis 150 mile benefit ride this year - again! Many were able to support me through encouragement as well donations to help me reach my fund raising goals. This is also a chance for me to connect with many friends who I haven’t heard from for a long time so drop a line when you get a chance - It would be great to hear from you again.

Ride Log: Vivian

Filed under: Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 9:32 pm

Went to Vivian tonight. Cool because of the the approaching storm. Not too many people on the trail because of it. I stopped by Best Buy tonight to look at a small digital camera that I can take on my rides. I’m looking at the Olympus Stylus 810 or Olympus Stylus 710 because they are weather resistant, light and small. Anyway, couldn’t’ decide so I figure I can wait.

Ride Log: Novell Campus to Payson and Back

Filed under: Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 9:27 pm

Tonight after work I rode from the Novell building H parking lot along Kuni Rd. to the Springville exit with the Walmart (not sure what the exit # is) then West following the road as it wound around through farm fields turning South and ended up on Main Street in Payson, UT. I did the tour of the one block “Historic Downtown” which consisted of riding up a oneway street of old buildings before continuing to the Payson Memorial Park. While at the park I was entertained by three juvenile delinquents riding skate boards and a BMX bike on the bandstand. They were quite entertaining but after the 15th ollie and 10th kick-flip and a couple kick-flips off the three foot bandstand, I had seen their entire repertoire of tricks. I ate a couple granola bars I had in my hydration pack and headed back to Novell. Nice ride. Lots of protein in the air out in the farm land tonight. Yuck!!! Almost as bad as the number of bugs I suck in while climbing Provo Canyon.

Ride Log: Vivian, East Provo

Filed under: Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 9:30 pm

Rode to Vivian to day. Drafted behind some super-rodie-biker for as long as I could - only about a mile or so before he left me in the dust. It was fun though. After the canyon, I went South on Univerity Ave. then up past the MTC and Provo Temple to visit a friend who lives East of BYU campus. Nice ride. It was dark when I got home but the temperature was perfect the whole ride - in the 70s and 80s.

Ride Log: Vivian, North Orem

Filed under: Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 6:58 pm

Took half day today to take care of some things and had time to ride this evening. Went to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon then on the way back, went past the old WordPerfect campus, west then south heading home. Nice weather in the 80s. Pushed pretty hard today. Stopped by Jay Platt’s place on the way out. He is moving his family to Arizona. I’ll miss him - he’s a good friend.

Ozone Samurai2 kite

Filed under: Outdoors, Anti-sedent, Exertion — marc @ 5:51 pm

So, I’m fixin’ to get me another kite. “Don’t you already have too many?”, you might ask. Well, the fact is that a) you can never have too many kites and b) I need another kite in the 3-4 meter range because when I take friends kiting, that is the best size for them to use when learning a 4-line kite after they have learned on a two-line trainer kite. The Ozone Samurai2 is what I’m looking at. A very sweet kite with either a bar or handles. It’s a non-depower kite so you need kite-killers or a good saftey release mechanism on your bar when flying it.

Ride Log: Park City: 1h 13m 40s

Filed under: Family, Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 11:29 pm

Today I went to Park City, UT to ride with my sister Susan and her husband Brad. We did an 18 mile loop around the Park City rural and residential area. It was amazing! The weather was a bit cool but the sun was shining when we rode. We stopped by Hapa Grill, a Japanese restaurant on the way back to the car, ordered sushi to go, finished the ride then drove back and picked it up about 20 minues later. It was an awesome ride.

Power Kiting: April 25, 2006

Filed under: My Posse::Friends, Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 10:10 pm

A front was coming in last Thursday and the wind was steady out of the North West so I called a few friends after work and we went to a local soccer field on the UVSC campus to do some power kiting. I had all four kites there - the 1m Ozone IMP, 3m Edel, the 5 and 10 meter Ozone Frenzys. It was too windy for the 10 meter but everyone was able to fly the three smaller kites and we all had a really good time. Pretty cool. I met Jen and Seretta for the first time. Below is a picture of Jen with Seretta and myself in the background.

Mountain Bike Ride: 0h 41m 48s

Filed under: My Posse::Friends, Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 12:01 pm

This morning at about 10, my friend Sara, her dog Nellie and I met at the Bridal Veil Falls parking lot to go mountain biking. We followed the Bonneville Shoreline Trail for about a mile an a half. It was pretty steep and rocky but a good initiation back into single track. Now that I have both my road bike and my mtn. bike, I put the fat tires back on. It was a weird feeling and it took me most of the ride to get used to the tires and riding off road again. I’m still not there and haven’t got my rythm back yet. A few more rides should do it. I think it’s been two years since I did any serious off road on my mountain bike.

Went on a really cool ride at lunch. Rode from the Novell parking lot along Kuni Rd. to the old Thunder Mountain Raceway then west, over the freeway to the National Guard Armory before heading back along the same route. I turned on the heart rate monitor about half way through and it had a bogus max heart rate of 222 so the HR info is a bit off today. I’m adding 300 to the calories burned to make up for the time the HR monitor was off. Nice ride.

I usually don’t ride on Sundays unless I’m stressed out. I’m stressed out. Vivian and back. Trail not too busy today but there were several families out after church. Overcast and a bit cold with some wind. Looked like it might rain.

Now I’m off to SLC to have dinner with my family.

Filed under: Outdoors, Exertion — marc @ 1:13 pm

Today I took the tarmac out for the first ride. I didn’t push very hard because I wanted to get used to the way the bike feels and shifts and handles. This is my first road bike. It’s amazing. With the small effort that I did put into the ride, I was able to stay at my old levels on the mtb bike on which I did push hard. Totally fun. The weather was amazing - blue sky and in the 70s. I road to Vivan Park then to through North Orem to Pleasant Grove and back. Nice ride. Not too hard. I did forget to use my heart rate monitor so no vital stats this ride…
