Apparently my blog is listed on blogshares. I have not heard of this site before…
On Tuesday this week, I went to my sister’s place for dinner with my family up in Park City, UT. It was my birthday and we had a great time being together and eating dinner. My sister fixed a low-carb pumpkin cheesecake. I asked her for the recipe and she pointed me to this blog entry where she got it.
I recently ordered and received several audio books from Amazon.com. I already had several which include J. K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter books:
In addition to this I have several others as well as several Old Time Radio (OTR) shows which are incredibly cool to listen to.
Each day I wake to find 10 to 15 comment spams in my moderation queue. You’d think that the spammers would have their bots check to see if their spam was actually getting posted to the site before they continuted spamming. It’s fruitless for them as I just delete their comments before they ever see the light of day. I’ve also been getting a lot of stats or refferer spammers lately. I have to controll them manually for now but I think I’ve found some WordPress plugins for referer spam. We’ll see when I can get them set up.
Last night when I got home I rand in to my neighbor Jay. He is into a bunch of the same sports and interests that I am into which is cool but we’ve never done anything together yet. We talked about either flying kites or climbing in Rock Canyon. Jay and his wife were going camping at Rock Canyon camp ground and we decided that I’d head up to Rock canyon in the morning (after I had finished watching the Tour de France!!!) and that I’d give him a call on his cell when I got close. He was going to hike down from the camp ground and meet everyone at the climbing area.
The installers are finishing up the heating and cooling system today. I had ordered a Trane high-efficiency air conditioning and heating system to be installed with a humidifier and electrostatic air filter. It turns out that the high efficiency air conditioner coil is too tall for either the humidifier or filter to be installed. While this will drop the cost of the installation, it sucks at the same time. Wow, not my day it would seem.
So, my master plan for my life included buying this condo, and when the time came, move out, get a house while renting the condo to get extra income. I found out this morning that the condo association board is concidering changing the by-laws to restrict rentals of the condos. This sucks. I have no need to move yet and may not for a few years but I didn’t want to sell this place either. I wanted to build equity, and eventualy get income by renting it. Again, this bites.
I took the day off today so that I could be here when the A/C installers arrived to install a new furnace and A/C unit. I’ve been living on a swamp cooler through the summers since I moved it and I am pretty tired of it not working well on humid days and the mold and mildue are not good for my allergies. So, I bit the bullet as it were, and have decieded to get a new cooling system installed. When they arrived to do the initial assesment, they recommended that the entire 30-year-old furnace unit also be replaced with a new one. I agreed so I’m getting the whole sh’bang.
The Furnace and blower did not arrive today so they will be here a half day and half day tomorrow. So, I’ll head back into work for the half day on each day instead of taking a whole day today

It’s the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year brings with it an extra long day here in Utah. Sunrise was at 5:57am and sunset will be at 9:03pm. Wow….15 hours of light. From http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html:
Ever since I published the article about Benjamin’s passing, both Planet N and Planet SuSE have not aggregated any of my stories. I can’t figure out why but that story was different than all the others in that it had it’s comments turned off. That’s the only difference I can see.
I don’t know what agregation software they are useing but it might be the same since it’s acting similar. Other places which syndicate my blog are not having any problems (http://www.ucboyz.net/) so I figure it must be a problem with the software not handeling the feed properly. Weird.
Firefox is one of the best, if not the the best web browsers available today. It’s a poster child for the OpenSource movement and a tribute to the fact that there will alway be more talented engineers outside an organization than in. Thoes engineers program because they enjoy it and find OpenSource projects outside of their work environment to fill their creative need.

I’ve always been interested in electronics and technology. Ham radio has been interesting to me and in hich school, our vocational electronics instructor was a licensed ham and in the lab we had a couple radios that we used to talk with the space shuttle. Until recently I have not thought about doing anything with amature radio but I was talking with David Brown (K7LNX) friend of mine about a month ago. He recently got his license and we talked about it for a while. David sent me information on the next free class taught by Steve Whitehead (NV7V). The fee for the license was $14.00.
RotS was OK. We went to see it as a work party today at Novell. Much better than Star Wars Episodes I and II but too heavy on the special effects and CGI IMO. Bring back the muppets!!!! Jar Jar also appeared in Episode III as much as he ever should have in I and II. Some people like Jar Jar but I don’t and think he detracted from the movies (dare I say, I doubt that I’m in the minority on this one) .
I give Starwars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith 4 out of 5 stars

The plan was to go camping to wonderful Goblin Valley. My Brother, his wife and four other friends had made plans to leave Friday night after work. It’s a shorr three hour drive from my place. The weather was looking good and I was stoked. I took Friday off to take care of some errands I needed to take care of and to pack.
Then it came…
The email, webmail, DNS, gateway and firewall server of a company I have been consulting for over ten years had crashed. The hardware ATA RAID system had experienced a total failure.
Google has one of the coolest features if you so any shopping online – Google Search by Number. If a shipping company has shipped your item and has a tracking number, most likely you can track it (without knowing the company’s website) by typing in the tracking number alone into google. If google knows about it, the result is the shipping company’s website with your tracking info. Very cool expecialy if you have packages being shipped by several courier companies. The original info can be found in this google blog article.
According to this announcement on Astonomy Picture of the Day, water has been found in liquid form on Mars.

I finaly saw Yimou Zhang‘s Hero (Ying xiong) tonight. One of the best movies I have seen this year. My frind Erik Brown told me about it about a month ago and I trust Erik’s oppinions quite a bit. It turns out that we have a similar taste in movies. I bought it and it’s sat on my shelf since then. Just too many things going on in my life to watch all the movies I want to in the short amount of time I have in the day. So, tonight I finaly had some time to sit down and take in the movie.
The cinematography is certainly one of the best efforts I have seen in describing emotion through color and scenes. The pictures, music and dialouge complement each other so well, one is not complete without the other two. Rarely have I seen the framing and colors of a scene play such a critical role in defining meaning as in this film. A masterpeice.
So, I’m pretty geeky, despite being active in swimming. cycling, camping, hiking, etc. – I am a geek. I have been involved with making electronic gizmos since I was small, in fact, I’ve been involved in making all types of “stuff” since I was very young. Some of my favorite books that I had read as a young boy are still on my shelf: The Boy Mechanic series from Popular Mechanics (early 20th centry), several computer books, etc. I remember reading my dad’s college physics texts during grade school through high schoool for fun – science is and always has been facinating to me. continue reading…

Several years ago – maybe ten or so, I saw “The Point“. An animation about tolerance and acceptance of people who are different than the “norm”. Oblio, a small, personable boy is born with a round head in a land of pointed headed inhabitants. Being thrown out of their town, his dog Arrow is his companion as he searches to find a place where he is welcome. They find much more diversity outside his land than in, learing that he’s not different as much as the townspeople believe. continue reading…
