Wow, I have several friends that use MSN and I use Pidgin to communicate with them. They have told me time and time again that I always appear off line when I am not or have been on line all day. I get this message a lot: “Message could not be sent because a connection error occurred:” when sending messages to them. (more…) (127 words)
I don’t want to have to go through some winding, confusing process of reading HOWTOs, hand editing xorg.conf files, restarting X over and over again just to get decent support for my wacom digitizer pad. Especially when the experience on windows and mac is completely painless.

Wow, first it’s announced recently that MySQL will be bought by Sun and now Trolltech by Nokia. It’s pretty interesting, as I see Nokia’s primary interest in the embedded market. I wonder if this will translate into less focus on the desktop versions of the GUI tool kit.
The press release from Trolltech can be found on their site. (more…) (118 words, 2 images)

I was working on a project at work to make installation of SLES 10 servers easier in the lab that I work in. One of the features of SuSE products is to save the configuration of a machine into an XML config file that will be later used by AutoYast to clone the machine. This is useful in a variety of cases such as mine where we have a lab that needs several machines installed and it takes time to go through the configuration on each install or in the case where a school or computing lab needs to install several nearly identical machines. This saves valuable time.

I recently upgraded one of my work machines from a single processor whitebox to a dual 3.1GHz processor, hyperthreaded Dell 470. In doing so, I also installed OpenSuse 10.2 (x86_64). This is a big step up from the old box I was using. One thing I did notice however, was that when attempting to transfer the tar files of my old data from another machine, ssh would constantly die with the following error: “Disconnecting: Corrupted MAC on input.”

Novell wants to hear your opinion.
There’s been a lot of jumping to conclusions and knee-jerk reactions in the community over the last 72 hours about the Novell / Microsoft agreement. If you are worried or have questions about the Novell/Microsoft deal, you should let them know.
I just saw this on digg.com and think that the best thing you can do as a member of the OpenSource community is to voice your opinion on things you care about. There’s a TID (Technical Information Document) that has a link to a third-party site they contract with to do surveys.
Here it is:

In addition to this, Ted Haeger, who hosts Novell’s podcast Novell Open Audio, will be doing an interview on the Microsoft/Novell announcement. He’s asking for listeners to provide questions to ask.
Here’s a link to his posting about the interview and how to submit questions:
