    Neti Pot

    Neti Pot

Using a neti pot or some other similar nasal irrigation system can be helpful in fighting a variety of health problems. On nasal irrigation, Wikipedia states:

According to its advocates, nasal irrigation promotes good sinus and nasal health. Patients with chronic sinusitis including symptoms of facial pain, headache, halitosis, cough, anterior rhinorrhea (watery discharge) and nasal congestion often find nasal irrigation to provide effective relief. In published studies, “daily hypertonic saline nasal irrigation improves sinus-related quality of life, decreases symptoms, and decreases medication use in patients with frequent sinusitis”, and irrigation is recommended as an adjunctive treatment for chronic sinonasal symptoms.

I have found that using a neti pot has helped relieve my own sinusitis, congestion and provided relief from allergies and recommend it to friends and family quite often. Over the years I have tried both store-bought and homemade neti solutions. Both work great in my opinion however, some people are worried about purity of homemade solutions. I have found that for me personally, a home made remedy works perfectly fine. Read on for instructions on how I make my own neti salt mixture:

Neti salt is fairly simple and should be. I only use pure salt (with no added anti-caking agents or iodine) and pure baking soda as a buffer agent. I use the following simple recipe: continue reading…

Looking over the stats for the last few years, it’s interesting to see what the most popular posts have been. Here’s the top 5:

I definitely need to write more technology related posts. I have a few drafts that I’ve been working on related to some DIY projects I’ve worked on including some detailed posts on moding a T-Amp, and designing a power supply for it and some wood working projects I’ve done. Hopefully I’ll find some time to publish them this summer.

Unfortunately the ProView PL576Ws LCD monitor, as nice as it is, had to go back. There was no way that it would do 1280×720 (720p) and the purpose of buying it was to be a second monitor in my home theater. So, I took it back to Staples this afternoon.

    A j-pole antenna for GMRS/FRS frequencies (462.550MHz – 467.725MHz)

This article will outline how to build a j-pole antenna for the GMRS/FRS radios. These radios are the type you can buy at sporting goods stores such as REI, Cabelas, etc. There are several radio manufacturers who make GMRS/FRS radios with removable antennas. This antenna can increase the range of these radios by miles!

NOTE: 1) You can only use this antenna with GMRS or GMRS/FRS combo radios which are built with removable antenna (you cannot use this antenna on or modify an FRS-only radio or as I understand it, GMRS/FRS radios which do not have a removable antenna). 2) You need an FCC license to use GMRS radios in the US (read the packaging on the radios you get for more info). Know your local laws to make sure it’s legal to use this antenna before building it!

WARNING: Torches, soldering irons and solder (especially, silver solder) are very HOT. Be very careful while building this antenna! Always wear safety goggles and other appropriate safety equipment.
